"Wind-prone construction? Will the spacious Exped Orion 3 Extreme also convince in stormy regions?". Outdoor Magazin tester Boris Gnielka was wondering about this question and made the real-time test. Below his findings published in the Dec 2014 issue (in German):
The new ORION III tent: heaps of space, high canopy, very resilientabil!
Back in 1997 we introduced the 2 person Orion, the first tent developed by Exped. At the same time it was the birth of a completely new tent design, the freestanding ridge-tunnel. It offered the space of a tunnel tent and the full length ridge pole gave it freestanding properties. The new Orion III shares these excellent design features but grows in size to accommodate up to 3 sleepers.
The new ORION III – the perfect tent for winter camping, base camp use or extended trekking trips.
Spacious: two large vestibules hold heaps of gear and both doors are high for easy access and covered by vents for weather protection. Loads of comfort at 3.7 kg packaged weight!
