They call them dog garages in their magazine, the new lightweight tents, that were tested by the crew at “Motorrad Abenteuer”. That’s quite a big dog you could fit in to our one person Vela I UL with its 2.45 m length and generous vestibule.

The German “Outdoor Magazine” filtered its extensive test database and plucked out the 10 best trekking tents. Exped’s Orion II is one of them.

Sometimes you need minimal weight and packed volume, but there are times when all you want is comfort. The new Outer Space combines the best of both worlds and allows you to expand your Exped tent with a huge vestibule for hanging out, storing gear or fixing your bike in a shelterd area.

The new ORION III tent: heaps of space, high canopy, very resilientabil!

Back in 1997 we introduced the 2 person Orion, the first tent developed by Exped. At the same time it was the birth of a completely new tent design, the freestanding ridge-tunnel. It offered the space of a tunnel tent and the full length ridge pole gave it freestanding properties. The new Orion III shares these excellent design features but grows in size to accommodate up to 3 sleepers.

Pure luxury for two, comfort for three and made for four! The new Exped Gemini IV features a large canopy combined with a huge vestibule for a low 5.2 kg (incl. all accessories).

Exped wins the points: 6 Exped products get tested and reviewed in the most prestigious yearly US outdoor gear almanac, the Backpacker Gear Guide!

That’s as good as Fondue and Schnaps up in the Alps and makes us proud.

The Exped Venus II extremely proved its value up in Lapland! On the one hand regarding setup and comfort and on the other stability in the, at times, tremendous winds it had to withstand!

The winds were calm during most of the day. I arrived at a deserted beach, surrounded by high mountains which gave it the perfect touch. The ideal spot for setup on a windless day. It started to snow and in the beginning all was nice and calm.

But that changed rapidly and phenomenally. I was suddenly in the midst of a storm! Here I was, exposed between the open sea and land. Disaster!

We don’t know if an American super computer or a star in the whale constellation had anything to do with the name of the tent. What we do know is that the Swiss inventors at Exped put a lot of thought into the design of the Mira II. Weighing only 2.07 kg (including accessories and repair kit) it offers floor space of 2.15 x 1.25 meters which is enough for 2 adults and thanks to a ridge pole in the canopy sitting height in most parts of the tent. During the 4 week testing period it withstood heavy rainstorms and the zippers survived the constant contact with sand effortlessly.
