Our sleeping bag fabrics are manufactured in Taiwan and Korea. Taiwan implemented the 5-day work week in 2017 and is taking steps to becoming a nuclear-free state. Our weaving partner is Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1 certified, the highest certification necessary for manufacturers of baby clothing. For next-to-skin applications the highest certifications should be used.

Shell fabric in general
Those who have experienced condensation in their tents appreciate impregnated sleeping bag shell fabrics, as no one wants humidity in their bag or down. We apply an environmentally sound, non-bioaccumulative treatment based on organic components free of PFC, PFOA and PFOS.

GOOD TO KNOW
Residual PFC may be found on the fabrics. This cannot be avoided as long as the use of PFC are not prohibited in fabric production.
LINER MATERIAL in general
The liner fabric that has direct contact to skin is impregnation free. Due to the fact that these lightweight fabrics dry quickly and absorb very little moisture, we have decided to keep them treatment free. Should you wish to waterproof the fabrics yourself, you can apply water-based proofing products.

Exped sleeping bag liner fabrics are fully DWR-free as they are used next-to-skin. The fine construction of the fabric has a soft feel and has high moisture absorption.

how does a fabric control down loss?
There are two options in manufacturing downproof fabrics: applying an acrylic or PU coating to one side or by design. The latter means weaving higher thread count fabrics which has lower production output and comes at a higher cost.

GOOD TO KNOW
Down and feathers are natural and non-uniform so there is always the possibility of a down stem poking through the fabric. Do not pull it out but push it back into the sleeping bag. The hole in the fabric will seal itself.
Quality control
To ensure consistency, quality control begins during the weaving process, allowing Exped to have 100% confidence in its fabrics.
Optimal fabric consumption
Optimal fabric consumption is a very important production factor for Exped. We strive to prevent waste wherever possible in order to reduce resource consumption. Fabric consumption in our sleeping bags reaches over 80% and up to 90% in certain models. We have products like our hammocks where we reach 99%; this in contrast to the clothing industry where it can be as low as 60%.
Environmentally friendly production | water consumption
In the production of fabric used in an Exped sleeping bag, approximately 20 liters of water are consumed. If we were to use cotton, consumption would be around 2750 liters of water. An important fact when it comes to choosing a sleeping bag. The water used for our fabric production is filtered and treated.
