After Exped revolutionised the sleeping mat market years ago with the DownMat, we are now setting an example in terms of sustainable production. From 2021 onwards, all mats will be CO2 offset with Myclimate. This makes our mats the only and first climate-neutral ones on the market.

His passion is the mountains and he has climbed the famous Eiger North Face more than 50 times - now the well-known professional mountaineer Roger Schäli is Exped brand ambassador. As a Swiss all-round alpinist and above all as a person, Roger has been a friend to the Exped team for a long time. It's only logical that this has now finally led to a closer collaboration.

It is the highest mountain in the Karakoram and the second highest on earth after Mount Everest. K2 fascinates mountaineers all over the world. It is the last 8000 peak on earth that has not been summited in winter! Tamara wants to change that now.

Our friend, Graham, has been working with Protect Our Winters (POW) as an advocate for climate change awareness. An Imperfect Advocate is a film about his journey as an athlete-turned-activist.

Tsering Dolma Gurung (54) and her husband Silnon live primarily off their own agricultural activities. Three daughters attend the local school; the eldest daughter, however, is needed to help run the household. The family's most important possessions: sheep, yaks and horses - and now a greenhouse. A meaningful project, we believe and have financed 1 of 12 greenhouses and donated an ORION II EXTREME

COVID-19 is spreading rapidly, not only in Switzerland. This is why we at EXPED have also taken measures to protect our employees and customers. Although it is difficult to classify this situation, which is new to us all, it is important to us that we do our part to ensure the health of our families, the community and ourselves. Most of our employees now work from home. Yet we can still be reached by e-mail, phone and our social media channels.

2001: A Sleeping Mat Odyssey: Through the end of the last century, outdoor enthusiasts relied on one of two types of sleeping mats: thin closed-cell foam mats or slightly thicker self-inflating mats. Both provided some level of comfort and insulation from the cold hard ground, but neither did so with great effect. In 2001, EXPED introduced a revolutionary product - the DownMat – which created an entirely new category of sleeping mats – much warmer, lighter and more compact than previous mats. This new category necessitated a means of measuring and comparing the efficiency of the insulation, so we pioneered the use of R-value testing to determine the “warmth” of a sleeping mat. Almost 20 years later the outdoor gear companies have agreed upon an international standard method for testing the R-value of sleeping mats, based heavily on EXPED’s previous work with EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology.

What happens to a couple when the go on expedition together? Love!

Not long ago, the EXPED USA crew had the rare pleasure of getting out in the wild with several of our Taiwanese friends, Cindy and Penny.
